Award-winning North West training provider, PHX Training have launched a unique lifestyle initiative designed to raise awareness of the importance of health and wellbeing, both in and out of the work environment.
The PHX Office Charity Challenge is a series of challenge events that will take place from November across their eight training centres that are designed and carried out by members of the staff teams at each centre. The focus of these challenges is two-fold; to educate and encourage both staff and learners to make improvements to their health and wellbeing and to raise money for charity through the successful completion of the challenge events.
The idea was born when PHX Training Managing Director, Dan Scott completed his first triathlon event, saying “Whilst training for my first triathlon event, I began to notice some very clear benefits that having a new goal and a more conscientious diet and regular exercise regime were having on my mental and physical health.
“I decided that I wanted to try and inspire a ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ approach throughout the organisation led by my own personal experience. I knew that we would need to be creative in our approach because no-one likes to be lectured to about their health. After much discussion, we came up with the idea of an office charity challenge that allows each centre to set their own challenge and take ownership of the initiative”.
The first office challenge event has been announced by the Carlisle PHX Training centre and involves a 12 hour relay bike challenge with members of the staff team taking two hourly turns on the bike. The event will take place outside the Carlisle Office on Thursday 15th November and will raise money for Carlisle Mind and CALM.
Helen MacNaughton, Lead Work Coach at PHX Training, Carlisle said, “We’re really pleased to be the first centre to take up the Office Charity Challenge. We feel it’s part of our role here to raise awareness amongst our learners about how much difference a healthy lifestyle can make to your mental and physical wellbeing. We know that the benefits of this such as increased confidence and self-esteem, improved mood and memory and improved general health can be really effective for individuals who are working towards career goals, looking for employment or to increase job security”.
