Duo of awards creates delight for The Dalesman

The accolades continue for The Dalesman Country Inn in Sedbergh who received two prestigious awards within one week, securing the Cumbria Tourism Awards ‘Pub of the Year’ prize, followed by a Two AA Rosette Award.

The ambitious team at the family-run inn have acknowledged their delight at the news, in the wake of a recent programme of extensive accommodation refurbishments.

Beating two other finalists in the ‘Pub of the Year’ category at the Cumbria Tourism awards on 5th July, The Dalesman were recognised for their contribution to tourism in their area, with a food and drink offering that includes quality locally sourced produce and demonstrating excellence across every aspect of their business.

Just six days later on 11th July, The Dalesman were notified of their two AA Rosette Award and Four Gold Star rating following an overnight AA inspection. The inspector described the newly refurbished guestrooms as having “a luxurious feel, having been tastefully decorated with high-quality furnishings”.

She also commented that “the menu was appealing and featured fresh, high-quality local produce”, describing her evening meal as “very pleasant, efficient and flavoursome … with the quality consistent from starter to dessert.”

Owner, Mike Garnett spoke of his pride at the outcome, saying “This is something we’ve been aiming for as a business for a long time and it feels like everything has come together brilliantly. To have the AA inspector say that her meal was almost perfect was amazing to hear! I’m immensely proud of the standard we’ve set and of the team!”

The kitchen team that helped to clinch the two AA Rosette Award are Chris Burge, John Cassidy and Elliot Bibby, who serve up an inspiring menu of seasonal dishes that reflect the rural location of the pub. Having previously held two Rosette’s in other establishments, Chris joined the team to help achieve the business’s ambitions.

Mike added, “Chris took on the challenge and settled in well, designing a modern and simplified new menu with dishes full of fabulous flavours. The inspector’s comments on his food spoke volumes. She loved the Stuffed Saddle of local Cumbrian lamb and the peach Tarte Tatin!”

As well as dining from the new lunchtime and evening menu’s, guests can also now enjoy brunch at The Dalesman, available from 9am to 11:30am on Saturdays and Sundays over the summer period with dishes including a hearty Yorkshire cooked breakfast, the classic Eggs Benedict and an indulgent pancakes and butterscotch bananas.

Outside in the courtyard, a smokehouse and grill menu is available throughout the summer months, perfect for alfresco dining or a cocktail or two.  Guests staying overnight can choose from one of seven individually designed rooms or a separate two-bedroomed cottage.  To find out more or book a table, visit thedalesman.co.uk
