After taking some time to reflect on our recent FamBiz trip to the UAE, I wanted to share my insights with you.
The experience was eye-opening, and it made me realise just how quickly perceptions can change in a positive way. We were welcomed into a culture that places great value on respect, and it was a reminder that when you have the right people in the room, things can move quickly. Thanks to The Falcon Lion experience, I gained a deeper appreciation for this.
When engaging with businesses in the Emirates, it’s important to think locally. The people we met were eager to welcome us and help build meaningful connections. They are the Falcons, swift and capable, and with the right relationships, they can help you and your business succeed. Mutual respect is key, and when that’s in place, things happen fast.
During the trip, we met with several family businesses that have recently settled in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. Their experiences were overwhelmingly positive, though each had a unique perspective due to the differences between the two cities. Abu Dhabi, often referred to as the “Capital of Capital,” is opening its doors to both startups and established businesses, presenting enormous potential. Meanwhile, Dubai, known as the “Capital of Leisure,” offers a great balance between work and play, especially with the bustling DIFC hub, where global businesses are keen to engage and help you succeed.
So, what did we learn? Our vision of growing, connecting, and supporting family businesses globally is more achievable than ever. What has taken us 10 years to build can now happen in just 18 to 24 months. The corridor between the UK and the rest of the world is being created as we speak, and the potential for growth is enormous.
With the establishment of a Global Advisory team and the upcoming launch of the Global Fambiz Symposium and Awards in 2025, we are actively experiencing this shift. Not bad for our first trip! And with more destinations on the horizon, it’s clear that our focus isn’t just on the UAE—it’s on Fambiz GCC.
Stay tuned for my next blog, where I’ll explain why this broader vision is so important.
