Born out of one man’s dream of owning a vineyard, Little Wold has become a family business success story. In 2012, Henry Wilson took a risk and planted two acres of vines on the East Yorkshire family farm that he’d lived and worked on for over 50 years. Farming the land profitably had become a challenge and he knew the farm needed to diversify to survive. Henry’s siblings wanted to sell the farm but Henry fought to keep it, plunging him into debt. Despite this and with limited knowledge and resources, in 2016 Henry got his first crop and made wine. When the wine sold well, he planted more vines and increased production. Henry’s daughter, Alice saw potential for the business to grow into a destination for hospitality and events and gradually, she moved away from her teaching career to join the business full time. Henry’s son, Tom also moved back to the farm to manage the vineyard alongside his father, building the infrastructure as they went. Together their strong vision, entrepreneurial spirit and determination has seen the business develop and grow, along with their aspirations of becoming the biggest and best vineyard in the North of England.
