Two foodie powerhouse teams, both of which have received rave reviews on a national level, are coming together at The Yan – already established as one of the best places to eat in the Lake District.
Georgina and Pete King, formerly Head Chef and Restaurant Manager at multi award-winning restaurant Lake Road Kitchen in Ambleside, are joining Jess and Will Manley – Director of Operations and Executive Chef at The Yan in Grasmere – and will together run the award-winning ‘bistro with beds’, renowned for its rustic ‘from scratch’ comfort food and no-airs and graces, come in your muddy boots attitude.
Jess and Georgina are sisters, daughters of owners Dave and Sally Keighley and together with their husbands they’ll take The Yan forward into new areas of development and diversification, freeing up their parents to enjoy retirement. Georgina will work with Jess across all operations, from kitchen to guest relations, while Pete, formerly Head Sommelier at Forest Side, will oversee the bar and drinks offering as well as helping with facilities management.
Jess, Will, Georgina and Pete aim only to deepen and further enhance the elements for which The Yan is already so popular – exceptional rustic food that makes the most of Cumbrian produce and a homely, casual, warm environment, where laughter is encouraged – all perfect after a day on the fells.

“Georgina and Pete are at the top of their game in terms of their skillset and their work at Lake Road Kitchen has received national recognition, so to have them join The Yan would be hugely exciting anyway – the fact that they are family is just a dream come true. We can’t wait to work together and take everything we love about The Yan to an extraordinary level.”

“I’ve had six brilliant years at Lake Road Kitchen, working my way through the ranks and gaining not just culinary experience, but also experience in how the business is run and for that I’m incredibly grateful. We can’t wait to bring this experience to The Yan and to work alongside my sister and family. Everything that is so special about The Yan will remain as is, The Yan is already amazing, but looking forward, both myself and Pete are very excited to be part of and contribute to its future developments and growth.”
Georgina and Pete join The Yan in June. Named after the word for ‘one’ in Cumbrian dialect, The Yan has seven en suite bedrooms, a rustic bistro and an additional dining space called The Chalet which has views over Helm Crag, as well as two glamping pods and three holiday cottages. The Yan offers guests a wholesome welcome, hearty food and stylish interiors, all at the foot of the fells just outside idyllic Grasmere village.
