Cartmell Shepherd Spring into Summer Concert

On 2nd May, Cartmell Shepherd teamed up with the University of Cumbria for the second time to produce a spectacular evening of musical entertainment. The Spring into Summer concert returned to Tithe Barn in Carlisle for the second

year running, after a widely successful debut in 2018. This year the event chose to support local Cumbrian charities Eden Valley Hospice & Jigsaw Children’s Hospice and the Cumbria Wheelchair Sports Club, to whom all proceeds from the concert willbe donated.

Cartmell Shepherd’s own Community Choir, directed by Lyn Young, definitely made us proud on the night and the audience were charmed by their soothing renditions of traditional Scottish and South African songs.

The University of Cumbria’s powerhouse acapella group, Voces delivered an outstanding performance that had people of all ages dancing in their seats. The audience was also treated to the university’s Performing Arts Showcase, fresh

off their UK tour, performing an excerpt from their show. If that wasn’t already enough talent for one room, it was a real treat to have special guest Professor Valerie Reid, internationally renowned opera singer, whose amazing

performances left everybody stunned

.

The evening was compered by Carlisle’s most celebrated broadcast personality, John Myers, who warmed up the room brilliantly, delivering hilarious commentary and maintaining the joyous atmosphere throughout the entire concert.

The Cartmells team were busy on the night selling tickets for the raffle in which a very lucky concert attendee went home with a fabulous hamper full of goodies, donated by ourselves, overflowing with local Cumbrian produce.

It was a fantastic evening of community and music, with local talent and local people supporting local charities. The team at Cartmell Shepherd now can’t wait until next year!
