Family Firm Pendle Bike Racks Expands Team

Nelson-based family business, Pendle Bike Racks, has expanded its team by bringing onboard Mike Smith as its Business Development and Relationships Manager in a newly created role.

Having previously worked at Halfords, for 13 years, Mike is an industry stalwart. Showing his passion for the sector on leaving school when he first joined the cycling retailer, Mike progressed very quickly from part time cycle assistant into a managerial role at several sites across the North West.

From customer support to sales representative and brand ambassador with the likes of Heineken and Pernod Ricard, Mike boasts an in-depth understanding of the cycle trade and vision for the future for the Pendle Bike Racks brand.

On joining the team at Pendle Bike Racks, Mike said: “I have around 16 years’ cycle trade experience, working both in and with retailers and wholesalers and distributors, including Oxford Products,  which really gave me a firm understanding of the sector; and so when the opportunity arose to join such a forward-thinking brand with its heart on British manufacturing, I just knew this was the role for me as they share my ethos.

“I’ve watched Pendle Bike Racks really develop its offering having first come across the brand many years ago; and when I met with the team here, in particular with Chris, I sensed the passion to reprise the brand and formulate a long lasting plan to return their products to the mainstream again.

“Their products offer the best in practicality, build quality and safety. They look great too!  My vision is to push the brand forward, helping to increase its market share and presence within the cycling fraternity.

Chris Smith, MD of Pendle Bike Racks, says: “Mike is a true asset to the company, he knows the ins and outs of the trade and has a clear vision for helping us to push the brand to new heights.  I am excited to see what the future holds for us with the key and strategic support that Mike will inevitably bring to the table.
